Hello, and thank you for visiting Strictly Come Data, my new blog offering a quantitative analysis of the BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing. I’m Oliver, a lifelong Strictly superfan with a passion for all things statistics. This year, I thought I’d share some of my spreadsheet with the world to bring you a Strictly recap with a twist. Whilst I adore the sequins, showdances and studio drama as much as anyone else, my focus will be on the numbers behind the glitz. Each week, I’ll dig into the statistics of the series – from judges’ scores and public votes to dance styles, average improvements, leaderboard trends, and possibly the occasional prediction of who could be at risk of the dreaded dance-off.
Expect features such as:
• Weekly score analysis: Who’s rising, who’s stalling, and who’s defying the odds?
• Historical comparisons: How do this year’s contestants stack up against past stars?
• Dance style deep dives: Which routines traditionally deliver top marks – and which are dance-off traps?
• Special features: Predictive models, trivia, and a look back at memorable Strictly stats from years gone by.
The latest series has only just launched, and already we’ve had our first glimpse of this year’s celebrities on the dancefloor. The opening show gave us plenty to talk about: new partnerships revealed, epic professional performances, and that all-important sense of who might shine early and who has a longer journey ahead. As always, it’s far too soon to call a winner – but the numbers will begin to tell their story in the weeks to come.
So whether you’re a Strictly superfan or a stats geek (or both!), this blog is here to give you a fresh angle on Britain’s most beloved dance competition. Keep checking in each week for our latest breakdowns, and let’s see where the numbers take us this series!
